Student Rights

Students with disabilities have the right to:

  • An equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from courses, programs, services, and activities (including extracurricular activities) of the University.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of their accommodations.
  • Reasonable and appropriate accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids and services to ensure they have the same opportunities as their peers.
  • Confidentiality: Information pertaining to a student’s disability will only be disclosed to individuals who need to know in order to provide accommodations.

Student Responsibilities

Students with disabilities have the responsibility to:

  • Self-Identify and request accommodations in a timely manner and following institutional procedures for doing so.
  • Use their accommodations responsibly and in a way that supports their learning and academic success.
  • Meet qualifications and maintain essential standards for courses and programs.
  • adhere to the same academic and behavioral standards as their peers, even with accommodations.
  • Follow Center for Counseling and Accessibility (CCA) and University policies and procedures regarding requests for reasonable accommodations.
  • Inform CCA of accommodation needs by submitting an online request form each semester.
  • Meet with CCA staff for initial intake and provide appropriate and current documentation.
  • Communicate with CCA and professor regarding appropriate accommodations.
  • Present accommodation letter to faculty member (if applicable).
  • Collaborate with your professor to identify and discuss the parameters of your accommodations for the semester; especially testing accommodations (if applicable).
  • Inform CCA of barriers to a successful education and equal access.
