Dr. Dan Joseph is an Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Arts & Sciences, and Education. Dr. Joseph arrived at Coppin in 1986 serving as instructor for courses in physical education for children with disabilities for future teachers. Over the years, Dr. Joseph served as Principal Investigator for four federal grants training teachers to work with children with disabilities as well as numerous local and regional service grants and served Director for the Off Campus Initiatives offering courses for teachers in area school districts for certification and recertification. Dr. Joseph earned his doctorate from The Ohio State University (1984) and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin (1978) with focus on working with children with disabilities after earning a bachelor’s degree and teacher certification from Bridgewater State College (1976) in Massachusetts. Currently, he serves as instructor for teacher education courses in special education as well as courses across the unit. In addition, Dr. Joseph serves as Coordinator for the Graduate Studies and Coordinator for Special Education. Most recently, he successfully developed Maryland and national recognition initiatives for graduate and undergraduate special education teacher certification programs.
