Strategic Planning
The process is now underway to develop a new strategic plan for Coppin State University. A strategic plan is a dynamic document that outlines strategic initiatives, serves as a roadmap for handling opportunities and challenges, and helps position institutions for future success. The strategic planning process allows us to put our University's mission and vision into clear focus, evaluate our current position, and align our work and priorities in ways that best serve our students and our community, now and into the future.
Coppin State University Mission and Vision
Mission: Coppin State University, a Historically Black Institution in a dynamic urban setting, serves a multi-generational student population and provides education opportunities while promoting lifelong learning. The university fosters leadership, social responsibility, civic and community engagement, cultural diversity and inclusion, and economic development.
Vision: Coppin State University seeks to become a leader in urban higher education, recognized nationally for transforming the lives of students from all socio-economic backgrounds.
Strategic Priorities
The strategic plan will be grounded in our five strategic priorities, which will help guide our future decision-making and ensure alignment with our institution's mission and vision.
Members of the Strategic Planning Committee will:
- Facilitate the engagement of constituencies in substantive discussion of the five priorities;
- Incorporate high impact practices from data-driven metrics in the development of the strategic plan;
- Incorporate the five overarching priorities and underlying strategies that will guide the university’s work for the next five years;
- Work toward achieving the University’s strategic priorities by 2028; and
- Align the next CSU Strategic Plan with the University System of Maryland (USM) Strategic Plan, Vision 2030: From Excellence to Preeminence.
The committee, with assistance from subcommittees, are charged with delivering a draft strategic plan by May 1, 2023, which will be reviewed by our community and open for comment.
Strategic Planning Steering Committee
The Strategic Planning Steering Committee is a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and administrators charged to lead the development of the strategic plan. They will consider the work of the various subcommittees and evaluate the tools and resources necessary to achieve the goals of the 2023-2028 strategic plan.
