Dr. Ericka Covington is a tenured Associate Professor in management and Dean of Graduate Studies. She has a Doctor of Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership. Dr. Covington is a dynamic business expert and an accomplished leader with a wealth of expertise in leading national marketing initiatives for a major Fortune 500 company and has facilitated numerous trainings on management and effective leadership to corporate professionals. She also has specialized training in international business relations through the George Washington University’s Center for International Business Education and Research. She also holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Cornell University.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from University of Maryland in the area of Criminal Justice and Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Coppin State University. Dr. Covington has an Associate’s degree in paralegal studies and worked many years as a paralegal prior to becoming a parole and probation officer with the State of Maryland upon graduation. She has interned extensively with the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office, The Office of the Public Defender, and served as a Victim Witness Coordinator in Montgomery County.
While experienced in the areas of business management and organizational leadership, her passion for social justice and her concern for her home town of Baltimore, gave rise to her research evaluating fluctuating leadership styles within the Baltimore City Police Department and how styles may influence the motivation of patrol officers. Her other areas of research interest include: sustainable business development in urban communities, and using leadership styles to develop effective organizational practices.
Dr. Covington is an associate editor for the Journal of Leadership and Management and has served as a reviewer for the Eastern Academy of Management. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
