Coppin State University Celebrates 125 Years of Transformation and Impact on Maryland

BALTIMORE – Coppin State University, a nationally recognized leader in urban higher education, proudly announces its 125th-anniversary celebration on April 24, 2025, from 6–9 p.m. at the M&T Bank Exchange in downtown Baltimore. This milestone event entitled Coppin125: Celebrating a Legacy, Igniting The Future will honor Coppin’s rich legacy, transformative faculty and students, and bold vision for the future, while celebrating generations of scholars, educators, and leaders who have shaped the university’s extraordinary impact.
The anniversary also marks President Anthony L. Jenkins’ fifth year in office, a tenure defined by historic milestones in growth, research, innovation, and student success. Under his leadership, Coppin has strengthened Maryland’s workforce, empowered urban communities, and expanded academic excellence. As part of this vision, the university is launching the public phase of the “BE MORE” campaign, the largest capital campaign in its history, with a $25 million goal to enhance student achievement, academics, research, athletics, and long-term sustainability.
“For 125 years, Coppin State has been a beacon of education, opportunity, and community empowerment across Maryland,” said President Anthony L. Jenkins. “This celebration honors our faculty, staff, students, and alumni, past and present, who have defined our purpose and strengthened our legacy. The ‘BE MORE’ campaign will build on that foundation, ensuring Coppin’s role as a pillar of Maryland’s educational and economic landscape for the next 125 years.”
As a driver of economic mobility and workforce development, Coppin State University plays a crucial role in training healthcare professionals, STEM innovators, business leaders, and policymakers. Its urban revitalization efforts, research initiatives, and community programs continue to shape Baltimore and the state as a whole.
“The ‘BE MORE’ campaign is not just about today; it’s about ensuring future generations of students, educators, and community leaders have the opportunities they need to thrive,” said Joshua E. Humbert, Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
The 125th-anniversary celebration will showcase Coppin’s legacy, its deep-rooted commitment to Baltimore, and its vision for the next generation of leaders.
