Kayla selected Coppin for its affordability and strong nursing program—a choice deeply influenced by family legacy. Her mother, a Coppin nursing alumna, set a powerful example that Kayla is proud to follow.

Her journey at Coppin has been one of personal and professional growth. Once shy and reserved, Kayla developed confidence and leadership through group projects, clinical rotations, and campus engagement. Facing challenges such as course withdrawal and deferring her nursing application, she persisted and was ultimately accepted into Coppin’s highly competitive nursing program. Her story affirms that success is a journey marked by perseverance and support.

Now preparing for graduation, Kayla is focused on passing the NCLEX and pursuing a career in pediatrics or women’s health, areas where she can advocate for underserved communities. She also envisions returning to Coppin as a clinical instructor to inspire the next generation of nurses.

As the 92nd Miss Coppin, Kayla launched the platform “Born This Way: A True Legacy,” promoting college readiness, commencement achievement, and career preparation. She collaborated with campus organizations and external partners to amplify student success and showcase Coppin’s excellence.

Deeply connected to Coppin’s legacy, Kayla follows in the footsteps of her grandmother, godmother, and mother—all former Miss Coppins—creating a multigenerational story of leadership and pride.

Kayla is a passionate advocate for donor support, emphasizing that financial contributions empower students to graduate debt-free and fully engage in their academic and personal development. Her story is a testament to the transformational power of opportunity at Coppin State University.
